@madfox58

Jason Reitman was like "Not quite my Fletcher"

@gizmomarek470

Really good scene but 100% agree with the commentary, totally would’ve confused fletcher’s character

@madmanonyt9943

It’s tough because this is honestly a really great scene and adds a lot more depth to who Fletcher is, as a character, portraying him as less of a cold-hearted asshole and more so someone who’s obsession with jazz caused him to become isolated from others, especially judging by the fact that he is alone in his apartment, despite having a picture of what appears to be him and his wife and daughter, who aren’t anywhere to be found. It makes it seem as though he is the product of the negative side of passion and how too much of it can prevent you from truly enjoying life and what it can offer. It definitely takes away from Andrew’s story and his perspective, but it’s a great scene, on its own.

@julssss8157

I was nos expecting new Whiplash content in 2024

@Kaitos11

Usually you hear about scenes getting cut for pacing and timing issues but it's interesting when scenes get cut for the betterment of the story. I do think the commentary raised some great points about why this scene needed to be cut and I think they made the correct choice.

@Unleashed75

makes sense to delete this scene. The talking over the top may of spoilt the whole film

@zaidlacksalastname4905

This reminds me of the time Alan Rickman was silent and just looking sadly into the night and his performance was so expressive that they removed the scene to avoid it spoiling that Snape isn't actually loyal to Voldemort. HIS EYES SPOILED A MASSIVE PLOT REVEAL. peak acting

@UncleSwords

probably the only deleted scene that makes me glad it was cut... as much as i love it... (could have been put in the post credits)

@yoshidracos.a.1125

Although, in defense of the scene, it does also portray how lonely is Fletcher's life. All that pursuit of musical perfection and abuse he puts on his students, for what? To go home and show how miserable he really is.

@Brick085

Such a great character. I would watch a whole movie about him.

@JazzymanDALICK

I feel like this would be a good post credit scene, as he experience his great build up of relationship with Andrew toward the end, and having Casey die would make this part best in post credit.

@JasonBorunda

I love how its the same Fletchers Theme he later plays in the Jazz Club !!

@fccthe3813

It feels like there’s almost no part of this movie that undercuts Fletchers harshness, or his strict mentality, but that’s the beauty of it.

@The_Lit_in_Litigate

My writing teacher in college told us not to humanize our villains unless their humanity is essential to the story. We were discussing thematic focus in world building. She stressed how villains are not supposed to be the bad guy, they’re what our hero’s world considers a bad guy, so humanizing them can take away from the focus on the hero if you can over relate to them.

@PatricksCrazyPlace

Fletcher is a character that works better the less you know about him and anything you experience is from the protagonists POV.

@howiespancakeshack

Woof. That lighting at 38 seconds. 😮

@kapanimations

I think it would’ve worked more as like a post credits scenes, and it can be assumed that it takes place after the ending concert, and Fletcher finally feels accomplished with a student.

@vedadb1937

i really wish every creator, whether movie or game or art or otherwise, cared this much about what they make

@EthanBus

Agreed, perfect film!!!

@mafia6330

This would have made a great end of credits scene.
