There's way too many devil fruits that just have strange side-effects to just assume they are awakenings. Case in point: Sugar's hobby hobby no mi. I think Crocodile's fruit just has extra properties and the ancient zoans have weird inexplicable bodies and mythical zoans have additional mythical powers.

I think Crocodile has a fruit that just dehydrates stuff and he’s good at using it. If say, Ace lights a forest on fire its not an awakening. His fruits just good at making the environment firey.

Uh...Orochi's devil fruit's ability is based on the mythical beast. It is not an awakening. Mythical Zoans are established as having zoans with special powers. That doesn't make them awakened.
