The security guard was actually very polite by respecting Lecter's wishes concerning his drawings. He didn't deserve to die.
Anthony Hopkins portrayed one of the most convincing villians in movie history, and he did it well. The oscar for his work in this film was very much deserved.
The way Hannibal holds the baton and proceeds repeatedly bashing the guy's head was the scariest thing I've seen in any horror film.
Love how when he greets them from inside the cell he just looks like a spider waiting on his prey
“Jimmy watch it he’s got me!” I don’t know about you, but if the sadistic cannibal psychopath managed to get me in handcuffs, I’d scream a hell of a lot louder than that.
Anthony Hopkins is the only man who could've done justice to this role and he surpassed it by light years! There's no words to describe this man's talent.
"A census taker once tried to test me, I ate his liver with some fava - beans and a nice Chianti" the best lines in movie history! Delivered with utter mesmerising immorality by the great Anthony Hopkins!
No one but Anthony Hopkins could ever do that scene so perfectly!
2:49 the screaming in pain from the cop gives me chills, I can only imagine the pain that he was going through but still a badass escape from Hannibal
The fact that he doesn't need to be mean, neither vulgar, he's just the perfect psychopath, smart, capable and even for his age, pretty damn intimidating. Hopkins made a great job making this gentlemen. Amazing scene. ❤️❤️❤️
A couple of points: 1) This cell is a temporary set up for Lecter in the court house, this isn't intended to be his final new cell, hence the hastily installed cage. 2) If you notice in the previous scene when Clarice is in the room, there is a quick cut away to the two cops who appear to be completely inattentive even during Clarice and Hannibal's emotional discussion. It seems to me Hannibal would have figured out pretty quickly that the two police officers charged with supervising him were incompetent, and only then did he begin forming an escape plan. 3) No camera - this is a courthouse not a prison, so I wouldn't expect a heavy CCTV set up - they might not have had time to install one in the short time they had. 4) Notice how he ordered a second dinner - he probably figured out the cop's way of doing things from the first time, and manipulated them both to do exactly what he wanted the second time around. 5) ...not sure why there is a flip knife in the cell. In summary a lot of people are like "why didn't the cops do this or that?" well Hannibal was probably thinking the same thing and couldn't believe his luck and realised he could get out pretty quickly. It seems to me a butthole like Chilton wouldn't have bothered explaining proper security protocols with Lecter, he just wanted the fame and admiration and to get the deal done as quickly as possible.
When he swings the baton, he becomes breathless with excitement and enjoyment. The perfect psychopath. Superbly acted by, Sir Anthony.
Music really does have charm to soothe the savage beast.
HOLY CRAP! I JUST NOTICED! Dr Lecter drew Clarice holding a lamb!
The music cracks me up at first when they first enter. I also love the fact that Hannibal is just standing there listening to the music after beating a guy to death, but then the other guard makes some noise. I'm pretty sure he was probably thinking "Oh yeah, forgot about him for a minute," right before he went to leave the cell.
First time I saw this movie was as a junior in high school for my psychology class. That was over 10 years ago. Best performance of all time to this day.
"Mind the drawings please." I just realized Lector said that to bid more time while he picked the lock.
Never, NEVER take your eyes off of a prisoner when you're in the cell with him.
Anthony Hopkins is truly an extraordinary actor.
