i had to watch it twice to figure it out: the Voidout that ended up killing Sam's wife (already dead at this point) and child (Lou/Tomorrow, who doesn't in fact die) was caused by Sam's contact with Neil Vana's BT.... who was stalking Lucy's body.

The child of an unkillable repatriate, ripped from her dead mother's womb and hidden in storage inside a pod as BB-00, goes on a whole DS1 worth of walkabout adventures with her OWN DAD, finally gets let out of her pod, ages naturally for two years, then gets yanked away to the Beaches of the Dead by her babysitter Fragile, where Neil Vana's soldiers and an army of StillMothers protect her inside a chrysalis of tar and amino acids until she is adult-sized (and hot), at which point she gets to rejoin the world of the Living and be with her dad again. That's a happy-enough ending! With music by Woodkid --- what's not to love?
