I really hope that generative AI can battle the trend of increasing development costs / increasing development time and broken releases in the triple A gaming scene. If AI can make developers work more efficient and battle crunch, it can go a long ways and in the end there needs to be some manual oversight to what code the AI spits out. The only worry I have with using LLM in RPG's is that the game will behave in unintended ways, which would make it really hard to design the game around if you give NPC's a black box on what type of dialogue they can respond with. You would basically need an AI system to check if the output is desired and that system would be close to an AGI system.

AI will be more of a benefit than a detriment. While the major AAA companies will use AI to replace workers and create more aggravating Microtransactions (EA and Ubisoft), indie and AA studios staffed by those laid off developers will use AI to do the heavy lifting to make worthwhile experiences that can rival the assembly line cash grabs.

I personally don't want games to be a never ending infinite experience. I'm simply not going to dedicate years of my life to just play a handful of games. I want to complete a game and move along to the next one.
