The small red ones are the most beneficial
South MSβ¦I use wet cardboard in my beds and worms love that. Straight to my compost tubππ»raining everyday here and I ainβt madπ
I love worms :) Funfact they don't have any eyes or nose just a big mouth and the reason they come up when it's wet is simply because they can! They have a slimey exterior that would normally dry out in the sun, so when it's wet it's safe to come up for them.
You can also take a stick with ridges on it and shove it into the ground grab another stick and run it up and down the other. The worms feel like it's raining and come to the surface
Other comment being said Iβm always happy to see literally anyone gardening literally anything. The world needs more farmers, we need more green on this earth π
Yeah black gold very expensive to buy easy to make on your own (even in the house a cheap trash can with dirt and food scraps but nothing oily) and makes big difference in plant growth
I do it all the time when I move my pots they are all underneath, I picked them and put it in my veggies raised bed πβ€οΈππΌπ©βπΎ
If waiting for the rain isn't an option, no matter the reason, you can also find earthworms at many hardware stores, and of course tackle [fishing] shops. :D
If you are wanting the worm to do some composting while fertilizing, get Red Wigglers. They are excellent composters. And they stay closer to the surface, keeping the top soil aerated and fed. If you're struggling with compaction, go with the earth worms. They go deeper in the soil helping create aeration down deeper in the soil. Also adding incredible fertilizer and doing a wee bit of composting. β€
Yeppers π
Works and worm castings help to aerate the plants . It makes a huge difference .
Thanks!
You know you have a garden when you find worms and go JACKPOT!!!! π€£
Worms are the true MVPs of human civilisation
Iβve been self-fertilizing my hand for years
Big tip, I do the same, use cardboard and flatten it. It will kill grass, weeds, and stunt growth on trees and saplings tho and holds a lot of water.
Great gardening information to help with the growing medium.
After a rain the driveway in my apartment floods to the gully. I get a bread tie and make a hook of it to catch the worms as the float by, then rehome them to my small garden. They are small worms, but they have been busy. I can see where there poop gets pushed up through my ground cover moss. π
Great tip !
