@itsapittie

If you have a true line-of-sight (i.e., hilltop to hilltop), you can get some impressive distances with an HT. My best with HT to HT is 17 miles with both of us on elevated terrain features. Repeaters are a different proposition entirely because most of them are on elevated terrain and have a really tall tower in addition. But, yes, for most purposes, range is limited to about 5 miles. Range is most dependent upon terrain, so a better antenna may or may not give you more range, but it will certainly make your signal better.

@diver165

We used those radios 4 wheeling to talk back and forth. They’re friggin awesome and cheap too!!

@Zentroum88

shortwave also works

@collieman7377

1 the best antennas you can get for your ht is a signal stick antenna...its the best accessory for your baofeng

@collieman7377

U can make your own repeater with 2 baofengs...and with the new encrypted baofengs ...well you know

@AllanM2e0

Or sma lead to pl259 to use a dual band antenna mounted on a car or dual band Homebase

@martyjohnson4833

Line of sight is everything. After that it 40 watts. Then 300 watts then 1800 watts then 4800 watts. Get the picture

@ClintLeClairMD

I guess since this was a flash sale and some comments are a day old, that the flash sale is over and that is why there’s no link???

@ed2595

What link??

@manwlis99

If there is a line of sight i'm pretty sure its not gonna be just 5 miles!

@christian_cowboy_yehaw

Ham license in a free country.

@LucasChoate

If you don't have a ticket, don't be transmitting on 2 meter

@Securenode357

More like 3 miles. Repeater 70 miles easy. Repeater connected to the internet World wide

@HoldFastJoe-x7b

The 42 inch abree was the only antenna that actually extended the range with my baofeng. It is pretty silly but it did the job

Aside from that I made a jungle antenna and if your stationary with a tall tree that thing rocks!

@matondomuenzemt3561

Friend, I want to invent a metal detector using this type of radio. I don't know if it will work

@curtism-w6b

Unencrypted = Dead.

@martyjohnson4833

Tried that. Naaah. Just naaah. Waste of $$$

@KIRBZVIDS

it made mine worse indoors

@sethirwin1610

Buy another brand radio!!!
