My grandmother did the exact same thing that his mother did. My grandmother came from the poorest family in her town during the Great Depression. She started putting money away when she worked for a dime store while she was in high school. Because of her investing and saving, She has paid for six college degrees, cars, braces, furniture, down payment on homes, all for other people and her family, including me. She is now paying for her assisted-living facility, solely by herself. All because she started saving for when she was a teenager and investing in the stock market early. She literally changed the entire trajectory of our family by herself.
📝 A major thing I took from this episode: Kevin O’Leary’s signal-vs-noise rule. I’ve rebuilt my to-do list around it – signal items (high-impact, needle-moving) at the top, noise either delegated or deleted. Give it a go for a week and watch the clutter vanish while real progress speeds up. I’m also adopting his hiring tip. Just had a long chat this morning with some of my team about it. I'm going to try and make sure new recruits start on a short trial before any long-term commitment (where this is possible). We don't do enough trials! I think this will keep standards high, de-risks bad fits and lets talent prove their signal fast! From now on I’ll drop a comment after each video with the single most impactful idea(s) I’ve implemented so look out for it! Bonus point – the Steve Jobs anecdotes were fascinating! Steven
I could never see myself as an entrepreneur — but in my 40s, I’ve found my balance. Life feels rich in all the right ways: meaningful work, quality time with family, travel, and peace in my space. That’s success in my book. 🚀 To everyone reading this — may you find your own version of fulfillment, may your family be safe and joyful, and may your life be filled with health, gratitude, and lasting happiness. 💖🙏🌿
How are his adult kids. I wish i could hear that side. While building an empire...the noise of family. Did his wife work? What was the actual budget of rents, food, education, vacation for his family when they were born. Something has to suffer and life is never perfect to have the kind of success he has had because of his signal focus. Can you do a story on the Ceo marriages and what the wives must deal with when spouse is building a biz.
This was a good conversation - I learnt I simply need £5M stashed away and I will be golden... almost there! £4.999M to go
Best one so far brother. 5 months of :nvesting. $177k saved, debts cleared, and a portfolio just shy of a quarter million. Taking :nvesting into consideration last year was worth it in retrospect. thanks to Sarah Jennine Davis for helping me achieve this.
Looking at the life of Steve Jobs and Elon Musk I can say with certainty those are NOT healthy lives anyone decent wants to emulate. They were/are both rich but relatively unhappy people. I know some very wealthy people who may not be famous, but they don't see their family as "noise" and are much happier. Few people know that Jobs caused a LOT of divorce in his company by expecting employees to spend all their time at work. It became such a crisis at Apple that they literally had to have meetings and start a marriage saving program over it. Jobs gave himself pancreatic cancer- but a type of Pancreatic cancer with actually a very high survival rate- but he yelled at his doctors and wouldn't do what they told him to do until it was much too late so he died in pain for no reason. Overall his smart phone did not make the world a better place either- but I digress...Elon has 12 children (that we know of) most of whom he barely sees and at least 2 who have shunned him- and he's always getting into fights with people. What good is all that money and fame if you can't even have your own child love you and you can't keep yourself alive for your family?
Unfortunately, not all of us were financially literate early. I was 35 when I finally educated myself and started taking steps. I went from $174,000 in debt with zero savings or retirement to now, 2 years later, fully debt-free and over $1000,000 net worth. I know that doesn't SOUND like a lot, but l'm incredibly proud of it. Now I'm fast-tracking my wealth building (investing $200,000 annually) and don't owe a dime to anyone. It's a good feeling!
I lost my mom this month. The loss of a mom is universaly one of the greatest pains in life besides loss of a child. Miss you mom. ❤
I have a small online business and when my sister saw it was growing, she wanted to join, and said; No…. look this is my baby and I don’t want anybody taking decisions on my ideas. My sister is too bossy, I don’t think it’s a good idea to get your family in your business.
One takeaway I’ve applied daily: the 80/20 focus shift. I now start each morning identifying the top 2 tasks that drive 80% of results – everything else waits. It’s uncomfortable at first, but the clarity and momentum are unmatched.
0:15 I can't imagine being his age and not having my mother by my side. Her mother had her mother till she was 99 and my gma was 80, and my mom just lost my grandma at her age of 62. I'm already blessed to have had them all for so long. Beautiful mothers deserve to always be remembered and mourned over. 💐

I'm a retired widow and proudly debt-free. You spoke about investing in solar energy and electric vehicle charging stations in one of your videos, I'm now earning up to $81,000+ since I started. It’s been a total game changer, giving me peace, stability, and the freedom to enjoy life with everything I truly need.
Could never be an entrepreneur BUT I've found equilibrium in my 40s and now live an excellent life, good work life balance, travel and enjoy my family and those around my space 🚀
I can appreciate Kevin's candour. Some people just can't hear and accept the truth. Thank you to yourself and Kevin for keeping that vulnerable moment in the episode. Kevin's mum did the right thing by hiding her wealth from her husbands. I didn't want this episode to finish. It's brilliant how Steven picks up on the nuanes and laser focuses on the kind of questions he'll ask.
So honored to be mentioned and so grateful to have Kevin on our team!
Investing a small percent every time you get paid sounds boring… until you realize that’s literally how wealth is built. Appreciate the straight talk.
Making this comment at the 6ish minute mark… I’m not a fan of O’Leary. Everyone’s definition of success is NOT the same. Some people just want a quiet comfortable life. And that is greatness to them.
