Mr. Roberts, you're up there with best teachers I've had in my life. I cannot thank you enough. A most generous Man you are.

@e.m.tanner179

Ian Roberts is such a wonderful teacher. I truly wish I had a teacher such as him when I was in art school, in my early 20's. Now, at 73, I have discovered so much from his wise direction. Thank you, Mr. Roberts, for your thoughtful instruction. Your work is marvelous, and so are you.

@elainebutterworth8051

Hi Ian, Your teaching method cuts right through the mystery to a golden nugget of knowledge - thank you...

@Vyviews

Thank you for being such a generous and insightful teacher. I’m sure all of us with no formal training really appreciate you.

@virginiainnes9042

I am a self-taught painter, and your videos have been of great help and inspiration for me. I pray all is well and God bless you!

@meghanburch3548

I found your channel a few weeks ago preparing for lessons with my students. I feel like I’ve learned more from you in these 3 weeks than in the 4 years of art school and two decades since. Thank you!

@dorisr6424

Hi Ian. I have no formal art training, just a beginner oil painting course supplemented by videos. When I’m stuck, I always come back to your advice on composition - because that’s usually the issue. I appreciate that these videos are free, I will pay it forward by donating some of my art supplies to youth in my community. Stay well.

@glennastephens5203

I knew of the Rule of Thirds but noone has ever explained it like this. "The horizontal is usually a given, but the #1 thing to look for is the vertical," is a game changer ahha! moment. Thank you so much.... a new subscriber and newsletter recipient:)

@marieroslind1479

Thank you Ian, wishing you and Ann a lot of lovely painting excursions and painting hours together- no teaching only diving in to your own work🌹

@doug764

I regret that I didn’t understand this concept years ago when I started painting but since this is a process that never ends it changes everything!! Well done!!

@stephfindlay

You could not have simplified this better than you have. Thank you so much!

@LoriDonohue

Thank you so very much for all you have done for the art community out here!

@gladyshorst6257

As you were explaining your method, I realized that I almost intuitively gravitate to an image or photo with a strong vertical without really knowing why. Now I'm on the hunt for verticals! You are a precise and thoughtful teacher. Thank you.

@cpnoboat7659

I feel so lucky to have found your videos a couple of years ago. I paint with watercolors, but your teaching is universal.
Thank you for all the knowledge you have shared and for showing that knowledge can be well intertwined with humility!

I'll miss your videos and emails.

@nanwilder2853

As an AuDHDer, I often struggle to ‘see the forest for the trees’. . . This construct is actually quite helpful, in terms of composing a landscape, whether urban or rural. It’s most generous of you to share it with your online community. So thank you, Ian Roberts—no matter how often you post!

@gipvision6937

Dear Ian, I just want to express my appreciation for all the excellent videos and examples you've shrared with us. Thank you!

@peggyjofarr4577

Thank you, Ian Roberts! I am seeing better, and drawing better, and I know I will continue on in the process and my paintings will become better and better expressing what I see and feel in the moment. Again, TY.

@prachikhurana9792

Thank you so much for being such an inspiring and supportive art teacher. Your passion for creativity and your encouragement have made a huge difference in my artistic journey. I’ve loved experimenting with new techniques, from oil painting to mixed media, and exploring different materials like acrylics—all thanks to your guidance and enthusiasm.

You’ve helped me see art in new ways and given me the confidence to express myself freely. I’m truly grateful for all your patience, wisdom, and the positive energy you bring to every class.

Thank you for sharing your talent

@DawnoftheDay-mb7zt

I have followed you throughout this series and am so appreciative of your expertise and your straightforward style of teaching . Thank you for your generosity!
