Thanks for the shout, Jeracraft! Your maps turned out great!
I'm surprised nobody has really talked about this until now
9:48 You really scared me there, nice smiley face though!
side note: having too much entity lags out your game, and here comes the mod: fast item frame basically turning frames into blocks instead of entity, reduce lag significantly, and have the ability to make it invisible by right clicking
I don’t remember where but I have definitely heard of the transparent maps trick years ago. I’m surprised there was nothing on it when you went searching. Good to share this with more people.
We need invisible Ãtem frames in survival ASAP
We need invisible item frames in survival.
Yay for the Dominion shoutout, we have a thriving mapart culture over on Dominion including lots of mapart platform tech etc. let us know if you ever want a visit!
Dominion mention!!!!!! We have an extremely active map art community over here, but I guess we have a ‘few’ maps lol. You def need to stop by to see them all.
Would love to do this kind of decorating in a survival world if it wasn’t so damn complicated and time consuming lol
Can't wait to see this on HermitCraft
Jevin used this technic to create Christmas ornement on Hermitcraft last winter.
My heart DROPPED at 0:14 when he said 2017 ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
That's so funny I've been using this technique on my world for years now, had no idea it wasn't more well known! Definitely best used sparingly and carefully though, otherwise it ends up absolutely destroying the vibe and especially the character of a build, not to mention the lag 😫 Also there are countless websites online that will convert an image file directly to a minecraft map which can then be dragged into a world file and used on creative or survival, even without commands by replacing existing maps, certainly saves you building out everything by hand :)
1:59 u know, you could’ve just done this in Photoshop and convert it as map data. It would’ve been much quicker and simpler—no need for physical blocks or doesn't tie it to a specific in-game location. That also means it wouldn’t be vulnerable to accidental updates or griefing. (The fact that you used Photoshop to line it up aswell made me laugh)
I'd say there are a few issues in theory; - If you intend on using a large amount of these maps, for example filling a wall or multiple walls, it would cause entity lag or high hardware performance requirements. - Using map would likely conflict with some shader packs (though not all) and cause some odd visual artifacts sometimes. - If intended for usage at longer distances, or other rendering uses may end up with maps not showing up at certain distances. However, if these are non-issues, it would be of great use as similar image to map generators are already existing.
Kingdoms of Greymane could be insane with these sorts of details added! So much potential with this build trick
6:40 sorry is that a roach with 8 legs??? Confused entomologist sounds
Am I crazy for thinking this was extremely common knowledge?
