More than two thousand years ago, the Silk Road helped make China a marvel of the ancient world. Now Chinese President Xi Jinping has launched a modern version of it, which he hopes will consolidate its position as a modern day super power. He hopes a network of roads, railways and ports will kick-start global trade, and China's own fortunes for decades to come.
