Deck Building Tip: Joist to Beam Connection

I use my patented (not patented) pre-drill countersink that. I. Use. Every. Day to pre-drill a pilot hole on each side of the joist.

Then I blow two #10 x 3-inchers in there and fuse the joist to the beam.

The mighty DCA-6 Prescriptive Code calls for three fasteners here but only one inspector ever has asked me for three. I think that if I were popping gun nails in there, three would be well worth it. With screws, it feels like overkill.
