There have only been a few times throughout gaming history that we’ve seen a console manufacturer forced to bow out of the competition, and go third party. One such time came after the failure of the Dreamcast, forever remembered as SEGA’s last console. What makes the Dreamcast’s unfortunate fate so intriguing is that the console was widely praised at the time, and is remembered incredibly fondly today. How can a system that is almost unanimously beloved, also be the device that killed a once thriving console brand? This is how NOT to save a console.
