A new gymnasium, the IG Arena, which will replace the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium, has been completed in Kita-ku, Nagoya, and an opening ceremony was held on May 31, 2025.
At the ceremony, directed by music producer Hideaki Takizawa, Saori Yoshida, a native of Tsu City, Mie Prefecture, who won three consecutive gold medals in women's wrestling at the Olympic Games, conducted the orchestra.
Other notable figures with ties to the Tokai region, including figure skater Kanako Murakami, a native of Nagoya, and Takanori Iwata of J SOUL BROTHERS III, also appeared, making for a spectacular opening.
The IG Arena is one of the largest multi-purpose arenas in Japan, with a maximum capacity of approximately 17,000 people, and various events are scheduled to take place through June 1.
