In July of 2019 the eighth generation of the Chevy Corvette was revealed to the world. A few corvette purists may have been a little pissed off about the radical styling and mid engined platform, but the car put ferrari levels of performance into the hands of the middle class with the Z06, and bugatti levels of performance into the hands of the upper middle class with the ZR1, and regardless of how you might feel about it, the C8 corvette was a victory for working class car enthusiasts all over the world.
And as we approach the 6th anniversary of the C8 corvette, chevy is getting ready to reveal some big updates for 2026
Now first off I just have to acknowledge how strange it sounds to say that the C8 is almost 6 years old, especially since it's still so cutting edge, but I guess this is because every other manufacturer has been progressing evolutionary, while chevy has been progressing revolutionary, and passing all of their competitors in the process. And just last week, Chevy began dropping information about the updated 2026 corvette. And many of the changes we've been expecting have been confirmed, while some are still rumors, but a few of these rumors are backed up by some pretty good information. So let's start with the changes that have been confirmed.
The interior has received a complete redesign with very few components being carried over from the 2025 model, and anyone going from the mark1 to the mark2 will need to spend some time familiarizing themselves with the many relocated features. Gone is the hated wall of buttons center console with much of the functionality that used to reside there being distributed beneath the infotainment screen and around the center console and lower dash. The former wall of buttons has been replaced by a passenger grab handle with an intergraded USB-C charging port. Aesthetically the wall of buttons did give the interior a more exotic look, and had a nice visual flow overall, but owners grew tired of it quickly, so it's only fair that chevy chose to take a function over form approach to the redesign. Now as far as exterior updates, changes are expected to be minimum. Chevy teased this image of what is supposedly the 2026 C8 and it essentially looks identical to the 2025 car. Corvette Blogger also recently published an image of what looks to be a 2026 Z06 in roswell green, and again the car looks to be nearly identical to the Mark 1 Z06. GM authority did publish pictures of an updated rear wing though.
Theres been a lot of talk revolving around an updated engine for the Mark C8 car and we don't have any confirmation yet, but a few automotive outlets have presented us with some interesting information.GM Authority has published a few articles on the subject and they make some intriguing points. In one article they discuss GMs history of introducing new small block V8s in the corvette before they appear in the Pickup trucks, and mention that the 2027 Chevy Silverado and 2027 GMC Sierra will be equipping the new sixth-generation Small Block motor. Based on what we know so far about the next generation of the Small Block V8, it will improve refinement, efficiency, power, and torque while continuing to use a 90-degree V angle and an overhead valve (pushrod) design.
GM has dropped a small amount of information about the new engine saying: “As we refresh these trucks, we continue to make strong improvements in ICE efficiency and performance,” GM President Mark Reuss said at a 2024 Investor Day presentation. “Our next generation of full-size trucks coming soon will see a four to six [percent] efficiency improvement at launch over the mid-cycle enhancement of 2022, and this is 10 to 12 percent better efficiency-wise over the previous generation, which debuted in 2019, so these are big efficiency improvements.” So we know the new engine is ready to go, the only question is, will corvette continue their tradition of putting their latest small block V8 into the corvette before their puckups. And more recently, GM Authority published an image of a corvette fitted with emissions testing equipment, and typically the only time you test for emissions, is when you have a new engine.
2 New trims are expected for the 2026 and 2027 corvette. One that's been all but confirmed is the Zora - already recorded. Named after Zora Arkus-Duntov, who is known as the father of the corvette, and was the first person to develop a mid-engine corvette, all the way back in 1959, the Zora will essentially be a highly modified C8 ZR1 that is fitted with the electric powertrain from the Corvette E-Ray, more aggressive aerodynamics and improved handling. And since the internal combustion engine of the ZR1 produces 1 thousand and 64 horsepower, and the electric motor of the E-Ray produces 1 hundred and 60 horsepower, that means that the Zora will pack a minimum of 12 hundred and 24 horsepower.
